Beyond the jewelry, it's often the accessories that give a traditional Algerian outfit its truly finished look. Here are the must-haves and how to use them.
The belt
On a karakou or a gandoura, the embroidered belt structures the waist and emphasizes the silhouette. Choose it to harmonize with the colors of the outfit, golden for a classic effect, or more colorful to stand out on a plain fabric. It is worn tightly at the waist, over the karakou jacket.
The velvet fan
The traditional velvet fan, often embroidered or adorned with pearls, is both practical during long ceremonies and a beautiful accessory for photos. It is ideally chosen in a color that matches the outfit or the mendil, to complete the ensemble without overloading it.
Lace sleeves
Many karakous and traditional dresses are sleeveless or short-sleeved. Removable lace sleeves allow you to cover your arms while maintaining an elegant and coherent look with the rest of the outfit, ideal if the occasion requires more modest attire or if temperatures are cool.
The mendil
